Hugh Valentine Smart

August 5, 1944-September 12, 2020

“ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”

On September 12, 2020 Hugh answered his Master’s call and transition from this earth to eternity.

Hugh Valentine Smart was born on August 5, 1944 in Hanover, Jamaica West Indies to the late Walter Smart and Betsy Buchanan who preceded him in eternal rest.

Hugh accepted Christ as his personal Savoir at an early age. He was educated in the Hanover Parish school system in, Jamaica West Indies.

Hugh later migrated to Florida, where he settled down in the city of Tarpon Springs, Florida where he meets his wife the late Leola Smart who preceded him in his passing. Grant as he was affectionally call, was employed as a masonry with the A & B Stucco Company, as “Master Plaster” for many years and was known for his hard work ethics and skill trade.

Hugh loved life, he enjoyed playing dominoes, poker, and jacks or better game.  Food was also another enjoyment of his which included, ox tails, curry goat, and Jamaican patties.

Hugh was the father of two children, that he was immensely proud of and loved very much. Daleron B. Ashley his first born and Sherica M. Ashley his second born.  He encouraged them no matter what, to be all they could be in life.

Awaiting Hugh’s homecoming are his parents, wife, sister, and other relatives

Left in God’ care to cherish his precious memories and counting his legacy are his devoted children; Daleron B. Ashley (Tawanda) of Port Richey, FL; Sherica M. Ashley of Tarpon Springs, FL; and three step-daughters, grandsons; Amed T. Wright, Jerimiah J. Ashley, granddaughters, Marquiq V. Ashley, Shaterika L. Wright, Zantaria T. Wright, Journey M. Golden, one great granddaughter, Ki’arah D. Conyers, and step-grandchildren, one brother, seven sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, great nieces, great nephews, friends, and neighbors. A very close friend Alvin Linton who preceded him in death.
