Mrs. Edna Mae Mathis Johnson
Mrs. Edna Mae Mathis Johnson was born on November 3, 1928 in Sneads, Florida. She departed this life June 9, 2020 at home with her family, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Elzie J. and Luceal Scott.
She attended public schools of Sneads and Marianna, Florida. As a child she joined Greater Mount Sinai African Methodist Episcopal Church, of Sneads, Florida. She later joined Tabernacle Church of Christ Written in Heaven, Marianna under Elder Tracy Baker. She relocated to Tallahassee where she attended Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Tallahassee Number One, Elder Elijiah Morgan, pastor.
She was employed by Florida State Hospital (Human Service Worker) Chattahoochee, FL, Sneads Elementary School (Food Service Worker), Sneads High School (School Custodian) until retirement in 1988.
Edna was preceded in death by her spouse Robert Lee Johnson and her sons Robert Louis and Wilfred Christopher Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories and love, her daughters, Luevernia Morgan (Elijiah), Ernestine Abdul, Mildred Johnson, Margarite Johnson (Moses), of Tallahassee, Mary Bowser of Columbus, GA, and Amanda Dallas (Theodore III) of Clearwater, FL. Her sons Jerome Johnson, Benjamin Johnson (Kawana) of Tallahassee, Jefferson Johnson, of Marianna FL. 26 Grandchildren, 42 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great Great Grandchildren.
Eight siblings preceded her in death: Thomas Scott, Viola King, Carrie Sweet, Annie Mae Sweet, Louise Sweet, Albertina Sweet, Earl Sweet and Alice Sweet. Sisters: Savannah Eggleton, Eartha Scott, Elvira Beverly, Lauretta Scott, Josey Broadnax, Mavis Jenkin, Mary Mathis, Myrtle Sweet Atkins, Vernell Vernon. Brothers: Andrew Scott, Major Sweet, Leroy Sweet. In Laws: Dorothy Black (Cleveland), Martha Baker, Ronnie Johnson (Gwen), Lamar Johnson, Lanora Johnson, Doris Johnson, Peggy Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews and special friend and relatives.
A viewing will take place on Friday, June 19th from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Tillman's Funeral Home (4006 Crawfordville Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32305). The funeral service will be held at the Old West Florida Enrichment Center (2344 Lake Bradford Road, Tallahassee, FL 32310) on Saturday, June 20th at 3 p.m. Burial will take place at South Side Cemetery.
