Her Life at a Glimpse….
Dorothy “Evette” Sutton
Dorothy “Evette” Sutton was born to the late Joe Welch and Maytha Harris on May 20th, 1954, in Clearwater, Florida. She was married to the late Otis Marvin Sutton, Sr. in November of 1993 who proceeded her in death in June of 2019. She was a 1972 Graduate of Largo High School. She resided in Largo, Florida for majority of her life until she moved to Navarre/Pensacola, Florida in 2019.
Evette had an extraordinary love for people, especially children of all ages. During her days as a Head Start Preschool teacher and a Young Life Leader/Mentor, she was well known for her compassion and patience as many of her students and Young Life Justice/Key Kids recall how special she made them feel and how her motivation led them on the path to success.
Evette loved to cook and had various specialty recipes that no one could master: Catch-Em While They Hot Biscuits and Sweet Potato Pie. She always shared her love for food with her family, as she rarely missed a family fish fry or a crab boil, as these were two of her favorite meals.
Evette worked for numerous years at Head Start as a Head Teacher and then became a School Bus Driver for 24 years at Pinellas County School Board until her medical diagnose caused her to medically retire. Her career choices suited her well as she was able to demonstrate her passion for children daily.
Evette’s Christian walk began when she accepted Christ at an early age at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, Largo, under the leadership of the late Reverend Lewis Carr. She joined Booth Street Church of Christ and later, she transitioned her membership to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Largo where she served as a member of the Mass Choir and faithfully attended Sunday School.
On Sunday, May 30th, 2021, the Lord peacefully called Evette to her eternal resting place. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. To remember and celebrate her life she is survived by her children, Shedrick “Trail” Martin (Gina Martin), Ciciley Martin, Justin Lumpkin (Dominique); her step-children, Melissa Sutton, Otis Sutton, Jr., Levar Sutton, Marco Farrar; her sisters, Delores Hobson, Phyllis Harris, Edith Kellogg; her brothers, Ronald Harris (Willow-Dean), Robert Harris; 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; her extended daughter, Kristin Beaton; her aunt, Suzanne Howard; her uncle Charles Harris and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
